Red splatters on my white shirt,
I can hear your breathing over my neck.
I chop onions, rodo and tatashe,
100 naira worth…the iru you like…
2 boiled eggs the size of my big toe.

You dance around and I laugh,
as we inhale the smoky fumes of the stove.
We break the spaghetti in half,
And Galileo cries “Mama Mia”

Sticky and steamy,
I slap red globs on your plate,
Under kerosene lamps, I watch you eat with gusto,
“I love you” I wish you’d whisper in my ears,
“Wife material,” you say instead.
