A boy raised in the South but schooled in the West
What did my parents think would happen?
To send me to the other side of Nigeria was for my education,
But I came back with a longing
for a girl who lives in a land that isn’t mine.

Somewhere beyond the River Niger,
I gave my heart to a woman who spoke multiple languages
She was from the East, living in the West, and schooling in the North-Central
And I travelled twice to be with my peace of mind,
In the land of the Durbar festival and the Mungo Park monument.
To hold her at night and tell her stories
Of unique Southern names and exquisite riverine cuisine.

We’d talk into the night, dreaming of the Northern lights;
Of beautiful places we would live and travel to
But we’d always be home in each other’s arms:
The boy raised in the South and the girl beyond the River Niger.
